My iPhone photo used in The National newspaper
Last Sunday I was shopping in the Lulu Hypermarket when there was a terrific rain storm. The noise of the rain battering on the metal roof was almost deafening – and this went on for a good 30 minutes.
There were several puddles of water around the aisles, and the roof of a jewellery shop just the other side of the tills had caved it.
Outside, part of the road had been cordoned off as some of the roof had collapsed. I pulled out my iPhone 4 and took 2 photos and emailed them to Essam Al Ghalib, a journalist for The National newspaper…
…which is a wonderful, classy daily paper produced in Abu Dhabi. (Essam had rung me months before to congratulate me on my Al Ain Enthusiast site, and we have stayed in contact.) He passed my photos to the news desk and emailed me the next day to say that one of my photos was on page 6 of the paper, with my name below it. Cool! 🙂 …
The journey home took longer than usual as the roads were flooded, and dozens of trees had been blown down.
Amazingly, our villa, 15 minutes away, escaped the storm completely.
